A Problem with Spotify

Spotify is very likely the #1 streaming platform in the world. As of a last year, they decided to stop paying small music-makers… like me. We already make a pittance from streaming and now Spotify has decided that producers like me, who don’t generate thousands of streams per song, are not worthy of even that pittance.

It is such a slap in the face from a mega-business and they know that we have no power. If every one of us affected by this pulls our music from Spotify they wouldn’t blink. Unless we had the backing of the mega-stars, we just have to take it. They make $ from our music, we don’t.

I’m not producing music for the money, that time is past at this point and I know that. I produce music because I must, it is Me, it is my passion and I love it. Spotify has an incredible library of music, better than any other platform methinks, and a decent interface to find what you want, explore as deeply as you want. But now they will not pay any music producers for anything less than 1000 streams per quarter per song.

My library is wide, not deep. I can get 1000 per quarter, but not PER SONG. It is just unfair and disappointing, having so little respect for us small-time musicians.

So, please DO stream and download my music, and Thank You for listening! But if you have a choice… choose something besides Spotify. It sure would be nice if there was enough pressure from listeners that they rescind this policy. But for now, I love to share my music with anyone who enjoys it. It is not for the money, it is for Music. Keep listening, and thank you for supporting independent artists.
