To Dirt, the Spade was Not the End

This time the gloves are off.

This time we mean business.

Bad business.

Take a trip through some lush chaos, the maelstrom of mayhem that is To Dirt, the Spade was Not the End.

It's a wild ride; big fun and steely bedlam, hammered and fused together into a dynamic composite both jovial and edgy.

It will roar, it can growl,

Talons like a great horned owl.

This album features both instrumental songs as well as pieces with vocals by Paul, with special guest Joel Steven singing on  "Creepy White Van".

Hard rock like it is supposed to be:

dynamic

magnetic

idiosyncratic

ass-kicking

Notes on TDTSWNTE.

The album name came from the lyrics of the song Dead Man's Hand.

Substacea- It's a long intro but stick with it for a a kick-start into the whole album.

From The Divide- This one has my vocals on it (the lyrics are available here) and you can preview the song above. Perhaps my fav on this album!

Farcical- An organ and keyboard-forward song,  but still heavy with lots of moods and sounds.

Jonah's Threnody- Me singing again, with lyrics here. Lots of keyboards here, including some heavy piano parts to match the crunchy guitars.

My Dream of Manie- Plural of mania. It makes sense when you hear it.

Creepy White Van- Joel Steven sings this one with lyrics here. This one is really creepy!

Sukra's Curse- Hindu/Indian for Venus but a cooler, more sinister sounding name. This one is very dynamic and varied, worth a whole listen. On headphones is best. Preiew above.

Dead Man's Hand- Me singing again, lyrics here. This is usually a poker hand consisting of three 8's and a pair of Aces or sometimes a pair of 8's and Aces, all black; but the lyrics get a little deeper. What does the story mean to you?

Pentwater- Actually named after a town in Michigan that I don't know well but I like the name.

Dregs- Both vocal parts are actually me on this one (lyrics are here). When's the last time you heard a pipe organ solo in a piece of music?

Value of It- You can preview this song above.  A rollicking, drum-heavy instrumental to speed up your day. Big change @ 2:30 and 3:15.

Drawn to the Dark- Lyrics to this song are here if you want to read along. Nice brooding intro leads into a dark and dreamy bath of darkness with a spaced-out bridge.
